Guerra's power play goal caps third-period comeback for Men's Hockey

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Nick Guerra scored a power play goal with 2:16 left in regulation to lift the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team to a 2-1 win over UW-Stout Friday night. The Falcons trailed 1-0 entering the final period, but scored twice in the one-goal non-conference win.

THE BASICS
- Final Score:
Concordia Wisconsin 2, UW-Stout 1
- Location: Dunn County Ice Arena – Menomonie, Wisconsin
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 8-3-1; UW-Stout 5-7-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Guerra (Victoria, British Columbia) capped off the Falcons strong third period with his third goal of the season. The power play score, which was the first of the game for CUW (two chances), was assisted by Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alberta) and Taylor Gauld (Whitby, Ontario).

- The Falcons tied the game 2:47 into the final stanza on the fifth goal of the season from Josh Adkins (Victoria, British Columbia). Dante Hahn (Victoria, British Columbia) added his fifth assist of the year on the Adkins goal. Adkins leads the Falcons with 12 points this season, Hahn right behind him with 11.

- Nick Malvin (Ham Lake, Minn.) had another strong game between the pipes for the Falcons, recording 28 saves in his sixth win of the season. Malvin was at his best in the third period, making 12 saves to keep the game tied for much of the stanza.

- The Falcons penalty kill was another big reason for the road win, killing off all five UW-Stout power plays. Included in that was a 36-second 5-on-3 advantage for the Blue Devils early in the third period.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons are five games above .500 for the fourth time in program history, all four occasions happening in the past three seasons. CUW was five games about .500 twice last year and started 2015-16 out with an 8-3-1 record. The 2015-16 and current season starts are tied for the best in program history through 12 games.

THE OPPOSITION
- Gavin Smith scored a shorthanded goal for the Blue Devils with 5:10 left in the second period.

- Tommi Ahlgren made 23 saves for UW-Stout.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons and Blue Devils will play again tomorrow with puck drop set for 4 p.m.
