Men's Hockey adds Jensen as Assistant Coach

The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey program has added Jimmy Jensen as an assistant coach, beginning with the 2017-18 season. Jensen, a native of Maplewood, Minnesota, comes to CUW with a lifetime of hockey knowledge.

"We are very excited to add Jimmy to our coaching staff. His experience at the Junior A, NCAA, and Pro levels will play a key role in the future success of CUW hockey," stated CUW Head Coach Jasen Wise. "He has a contagious personality that is positive and upbeat and his energy, as well as his knowledge of the game, will benefit our players tremendously"

Jensen's primary responsibilities will be recruiting, coaching the defensemen and running the penalty kill and defensive zone systems.

"I'd like to thank Coach Wise and Dr. Barnhill for this amazing opportunity to join a great program at such a prestigious school and I look forward to getting to work with our players to begin our quest for a championship," said Jensen.

Jensen's playing career began at the prestigious Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, where he participated in the 2000 State High School Hockey Tournament.

Following his junior year, he was recruited to the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL), playing three seasons in Waterloo while serving as team captain for two.

As a college player, Jensen spent time with Ferris State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth, both at the NCAA Division I level, as well as two seasons with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at the NCAA Division III level.

During his professional career, Jensen played 191 minor league games over five seasons that saw him spend time in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and Federal Hockey League (FHL).

"Jimmy has played at all levels and has gained a wealth of knowledge from many different coaches. He has a passion for the game and a passion for coaching. His commitment to the game will be a positive influence on our players and they will love working with him" stated Wise.

Jensen began his coaching career in the NA3HL in the 2014-15 season, when he joined the Minnesota Flying Aces organization. Starting the season as the Aces' Assistant Coach, Jensen went on to take over the Head Coach title midway through the season. After the completion of his first season, he remained at the helm as the Aces' Head Coach for the 2015-16 campaign.

Jensen and his wife Ashley have a son, Jimmy, and a daughter, Josie.
