Budewitz Named as NACC Student-Athlete of the Week
MEQUON, Wis. – On Wednesday morning, the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) announced its Student-Athlete of the Week awards for women's tennis. Ricki Budewitz was voted as the NACC Student-Athlete of the Week for women's tennis by the NACC sports information professionals.
A senior from Watertown, Wisconsin, Ricki Budewitz is claiming the honor for the second time this season and for the seventh time in her career.
She started the week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lakeland's Olivia Heling. With senior Ashley Samuta, the duo won 8-0 against the Muskies.
Budewitz shined at the ITA Midwest Regionals over the weekend. Going 4-1 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles action.
In singles play, she started the weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tansy Graves of Cornell. She followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Luther's No. 20 Abby Ostermann. She then upset No. 4 Allison Szalay of Gustavus Adolphus, 0-6, 7-6, 10-7. In the quarterfinals, Budewitz bounced Michaela Sullivan of Bethel, 6-3, 6-0. The journey then ended in the semifinals against No. 10 Irene Agusti of Grinnell at 3-6, 6-4, 3-6.
Last week, Budewitz also became the winningest doubles player in NACC history and picked up an 8-5 victory with Ashley Samuta over Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Budewitz and the Falcons are scheduled to wrap up fall action on Wednesday afternoon at Wisconsin Lutheran.
