MSOE Stops Women's Soccer

MSOE Stops Women's Soccer

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - In a clash of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) heavyweights, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team faced its first conference loss, falling to the MSOE Raiders 0-3.

This defeat brings the Falcons' record to 7-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play.

Despite the setback, CUW remains tied with Illinois Tech for first in the NACC, each with 16 points.

The high-powered MSOE offense made its presence felt early, launching a shot just 79 seconds into the match, but senior Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) was there to make the save. Braga would record another crucial stop in the ninth minute.

However, the Raiders took the lead in the 13th minute after the Falcons committed a foul inside the box, allowing MSOE to convert the penalty kick and go ahead 1-0.

Undeterred, the Falcons continued to press offensively. Senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) made two attempts on goal within two minutes, while freshman Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) added a shot on target in the 33rd minute.

At halftime, CUW trailed 0-1, with MSOE holding a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal, although the Falcons had earned five corners compared to the Raiders' four.

After the break, MSOE put a shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but Braga was ready to deny it. Just a minute later, CUW junior Brei Rozmiarek (De Pere, Wis.) aimed for the net, yet MSOE's keeper managed to keep the Falcons scoreless.

As the second half progressed, both teams entered a defensive stalemate, limiting each other's scoring chances. However, the Raiders struck again in the 64th minute, extending their lead to 2-0. They sealed the victory with a third goal in the 71st minute, finalizing the score at 3-0.

Brooke Braga's performance finished with a total of eight saves. Offensively, the Raiders outshot CUW 15-7, with both Moore and Read registering two shots on goal each.

The Blue and White will look to rebound when they travel to Madison to face the Edgewood Eagles.
