MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team sped past the Sabres on Wednesday evening. The Falcons stay perched atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with 22 points after the 3-0 victory over Marian. The Blue and White improved to 9-4-1 on the year and 7-1-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
The Falcons had the first look of the evening with a shot from junior Brei Rozmiarek (West De Pere, Wis.) 35 seconds into the match.
The Blue and White broke open the match in the 32nd minute when Brei Rozmiarek found freshman Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) open down the field and Read showed her speed and ran past the Marian keeper on the ground into the empty net.
The Falcons went into halftime holding a 10-7 advantage in shots.
The Birds attacked early in the second half with a goal in the 49th minute when senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) showed that she is a track star and ran through a pair of defenders and scored on a tight-angled shot off a long pass from Brei Rozmiarek.
The Sabres peppered the Concordia net throughout the match and senior Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) came up clutch. The Black and Blue had an excellent opportunity when the ball got past Braga but senior Anna Roskopf (Hartford, Wis.) kept the ball out in the 59th minute to preserve the clean sheet.
The speed of Jacey Read proved to be lethal again in the 70th minute when she ran through the defense and once again got past the keeper and shot the ball into the empty net from 10 yards out.
Brooke Braga finished with nine saves in the shutout victory.
The Sabres held a 20-18 advantage in shots on Wednesday, after outshooting the Falcons in the second half, 13-8.
Jacey Read and Sabrina Moore both had four shots against the Sabres.
The Falcons only had one foul in the contest.
Concordia Wisconsin also remains undefeated at home at 6-0-1 on the shores of Lake Michigan.
With the victory and an Edgewood loss, the Falcons clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament
The Falcons close the home portion of the schedule on Saturday against Concordia Chicago.
