Pioneers Prevail Against Women's Soccer

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – It was a showcase of two of the best teams in the Badger State on Wednesday evening as the Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team traveled to Wisconsin-Platteville. The Pioneers improved to 5-0-0 on the year with the 3-1 victory to send the Falcons to 2-2-0.

The Pioneers struck first on Wednesday evening on a penalty kick in the fifth minute.

The Falcons were able to level the match 55 seconds later on a free kick from sophomore Lanie Czerkies (Joliet, Ill.) that senior Bella Rapp (Grafton, Wis.) redirected for her third goal of the season.

The CUW goal was only the second goal that the Pioneers have allowed all season.

In the 19th minute, senior Sheridan Dorge (Winnipeg, Manitoba) had a shot that just sailed high of the net.

The Pioneers held a 12-2 advantage in shots in the first half.

Senior Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) had eight saves in the first half.

Sheridan Dorge struck again with a blast that was saved in the 52nd minute.

Platteville broke the tie in the 57th minute on a sharp-angled shot in the box.

UWP added to the lead in the 64th minute to earn some separation.

The Falcons applied some pressure late with shots from senior Anna Gong (Phoenix, Ariz.), senior Anna Roskopf (Hartford, Wis.) and senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.), but the Orange and Blue secured the 3-1 victory.

Platteville held a 29-6 advantage in shots on Wednesday night. Brooke Braga finished the match with 15 saves. Sheridan Dorge had two of the six shots for Concordia Wisconsin.

The Blue and White continue the tour of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday at Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
