MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five matches on Wednesday. The Falcons flew past St. Norbert with a 4-0 victory. Concordia Wisconsin soars to 7-3-0 on the season and stays in first place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings with 15 points at 5-0-0.
The Green Knights carried the momentum in the first few minutes with four shots in the first nine minutes, including a shot in the first 19 seconds that was saved by senior Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.).
Both goalies were kept busy in the first half with both teams exchanging shots. The Falcons had shots from senior Maya Bell (West Bend, Wis.), senior Bella Rapp (Grafton, Wis.) and senior Sheridan Dorge (Winnipeg, Manitoba).
The Falcons broke through in the 43rd minute when a beautiful pass from freshman Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) found junior Shay Lange (Racine, Wis.) wide open in front of the net that was easily tapped in.
The Blue and White held a 12-10 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes.
With 15 minutes left, freshman Isabella Wentorf (Racine, Wis.) sailed the ball past the keeper from the 18-yard line.
The Falcons wasted no time and scored again 50 seconds later. Shay Lange found Jacey Read streaking through the defense and the freshman cut through three defenders and sent the ball past the diving keeper for her first collegiate goal.
Concordia capitalized on a well-placed corner in the 89th minute. Isabella Wentorf struck again off assists from freshman Hailey Whittow (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and sophomore Lanie Czerkies (Joliet, Ill.).
The Blue and White held a 22-17 advantage in shots on Wednesday. The brick wall of Brooke Braga was once again sensational with seven saves.
The back line anchored by senior Maddy Pertle (Orland Park, Ill.) and senior Carmen Rowe (Copley, Ohio) did a stellar job of not allowing many quality looks at the frame for the Green Knights.
Bella Rapp and Sheridan Dorge both had three shots.
This is the longest winning streak since the Falcons won seven-straight matches to finish off the 2022 regular season and the three additional victories in the NACC Tournament.
The four-goal margin ties the biggest margin of victory over St. Norbert with the 4-0 result on Sept. 6, 2014. Wednesday was the third shutout over St. Nobert, with the first being a 2-0 win on Sept. 9, 2005.
Brooke Braga officially broke the program record with her 21st complete shutout of her career. She passes Kristin McCauley who had 20 complete shutouts from 1997 to 2000.
The Falcons will host Illinois Tech in a battle of unbeaten teams in the NACC. CUW will also honor the senior class on Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks fly north at 7-2-0 and 4-0-0 in the NACC. IIT was the darling of the NACC Preseason Poll in first place with 379 points and 21 of the 28 first-place votes.
