Women’s Hockey freezes Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. – The Falcons brought out the brooms on Sunday at Finlandia and will head back to Wisconsin with four points on the weekend. Concordia won the Sunday meeting 1-0 to improve to 8-11-2 and to 7-6-1 in the NCHA.

Senior Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) scored the lone goal of the day in the first period from passes from sophomore Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) and sophomore Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.).

Senior Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ont.) secured her fourth shutout of the season with 15 saves.

The Blue and White held a 35-15 advantage on shots against the Lions on Sunday.

Sophomore Maddy Millar (Anchorage, Alaska) led CUW with five shots on Sunday afternoon.

CUW was able to kill off all four penalties against Finlandia.

The Falcons will have a non-conference clash at Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Tuesday before closing out the regular season at Lake Forest on Friday and Saturday.

The Blue and White are sitting in fifth place in the NCHA standings with 15 points. St. Scholastica is three points ahead of the Falcons and St. Norbert is three points behind CUW and has already clinched a playoff spot. St. Scholastica closes the year at Marian and St. Norbert will host Aurora.
