Women’s Hockey offense erupts at St. Catherine

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Falcons scored a season-high five goals in a 5-2 victory at St. Catherine on Friday. The non-conference victory boosts CUW to 3-6-2 on the season.

Sophomore Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) opened the scoring on Friday night. She scored off passes from senior Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) and junior Madi Chapman (Rogers, Minn.).

Natasha Wanless wasted no time to score in the second period; Wanless scored 54 seconds into the period off a pass from sophomore Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.).

Two minutes later, sophomore Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.) lit the lamp for the first time in her CUW career, with senior Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ont.) snagging the assist.

The Wildcats responded with the next two goals.

Madi Chapman sent the puck past the St. Catherine keeper on a rebound. Senior Sam Lombardi (Ancaster, Ont.) had the assist on the goal.

Junior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) took advantage of a bad pass from the St. Catherine goalie and threw the puck into the net for her first goal of the season. McElwee led CUW on Friday night with four shots.

Senior Breanna Thomson (St. Mary's, Ont.) posted 25 saves in the victory.

St. Catherine held a 27-23 shots advantage on Friday night.

The Falcons won 30 of the 50 faceoffs. Baileigh Johnson helped the Blue and White keep possession after winning 11 of her 15 faceoffs.

The five goals scored are a season high for the Falcons.

The Blue and White will look to complete the weekend sweep on Saturday.
