GENEVA, Ill. – The unbeaten streak continued for the Falcons on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Aurora. The victory pushes CUW to 6-6-2 on the year and to second place in the NCHA standings at 5-1-1 and 11 points.
The Spartans snapped senior Breanna Thomson's (St. Marys, Ont.) shutout streak with a power-play goal in the first period.
The Falcons wasted no time striking back in the second period.
Sophomore Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) gave the Falcons the lead with a shot that slid through the five-hole of the Aurora keeper at the 1:01 mark of the second period with assists to senior Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ont.). and junior Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska).
Senior Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) was waiting at the doorstep and gave the Falcons the lead on the power play off passed from senior Sam Lombardi (Ancaster, Ont.)and Ally Hull.
The CUW defense was able to keep the door closed the rest of the game and killed off eight penalties of the day.
The Spartans held a 37-28 shots advantage on Friday, including a 17-3 tilt in the first period. Breanna Thomson finished with 36 saves.
Issy Bilton led CUW with four shots against Aurora.
