Falcons Cruise Past Edgewood

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's volleyball team made quick work of Edgewood with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-14 victory. The 3-0 victory sends CUW to 6-6 on the year and 4-2 in the NACC.

A kill from freshman Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) gave the Falcons a lead at 4-3 and the Blue and White never looked back in the first set. The Falcons pushed the lead up to 21-9 with a kill from senior James Althoff (Kenosha, Wis.). An Eagles error gave CUW the first set at 25-14.

The Falcons led from wire to wire in the second set. The Eagles shrank the lead to one point on four occasions but were unable to overtake the Blue and White. Leading 17-14, the Falcons rattled off the next six points behind the serve of sophomore Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) and the Falcons later clinched the set with a service error at 25-18. James Althoff had four kills on five attacks and added a service ace in the set. Herman also had four kills and a service ace in the set.

CUW once again jumped on the Eagles early in the third set. The Falcons ballooned the lead up to 21-9 behind the serve of senior Jeremy Theis (Port Washington, Wis.). The Falcons clinched the match with a service error at 25-14. CUW had three service aces in the third set.

Freshman Benjamin Groll (Oak Park, Ill.) collected his first three kills as a Falcon in the third set.

Spencer Herman led the flock with 11 kills on Wednesday. He also stuffed the box score with a service ace, six digs and a block.

James Althoff added 10 kills, two service aces and a block.

Freshman Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) fueled the Concordia attack with 26 assists. He also had a kill, a service ace, eight digs and two blocks.

Senior Ryan Hoefs (Greendale, Wis.) finished with a match-high 10 digs.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday in another key NACC matchup at MSOE. The Raiders were handed their first NACC loss of the year tonight at Marian.
