No. 9 Carthage Sweeps CUW

MEQUON, Wis. – The No. 9 ranked Firebirds of Carthage traveled north and took care of business with a 3-0 victory over the Falcons. The Firebirds won 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 to improve to 4-3 on the year and send the Falcons to 2-4.

The Firebirds hit a blistering .667 in the first set with 13 kills. The Falcons pushed the lead up to four points at 13-9 with a service ace from freshman Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.). The Firebirds stormed back with a 7-2 run to take a 16-15 lead. A serving error gave the Firebirds the first set at 25-22.

With the second set tied at five, the Firebirds broke the set open with a 13-2 run and never looked back. Carthage claimed the set at 25-15.

The Falcons pushed the lead up to five points on six separate occasions in the third set. However, the Firebirds flexed their muscles and rallied to take 11 of the next 14 points and take a 23-20 lead. Carthage clinched the match with a 25-22 victory.

The Firebirds gave away 25 points with service errors on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) led the flock with 12 kills and five digs.

Logan Kebisek added 19 assists in the loss.

Senior James Althoff (Kenosha, Wis.) led the match with four service aces.

The Falcons look to bounce back in the NACC opener on Friday at Concordia Chicago.
