Falcons Finish Cougars in Battle of the Concordias

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The CUW men's volleyball team traveled to River Forest to take on the cougars in a battle of the Concordias.

The Falcons posted a solid line in the first set with a score of 25-18. The Falcons jumped out to a 17-8 lead after a pair of points from sophomore Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) with a kill and an ace. Herman ended the set off with one final kill to take it 25-18.

The second set was all Falcons with another big win. The Falcons hit a staggering .429 with 11 kills on 21 attempts and only two errors. 

They added four service aces and a block to score a total of 16 of their 25 points. Freshman Logan Kebisek (Brookfield Wis.) recorded 10 assists and five digs in the second set to lead the Falcons in both categories.

The Cougars showed up in the third set with a 25-22 victory after the Falcons hit -.038 with 9 errors. 

Senior James Althoff (Kenosha, Wis.) led the Falcon offense with five points on three kills, an ace, and two block assists.

The Falcons weren't looking to let the Cougars back in the match in the third set with a final score of 25-16. After the third-set wake-up call, the Falcons went back to doing Falcon things in this fourth set with another staggering .406 hitting percentage with 16 kills and three errors on 32 attempts. Of the 25 Falcon points, 20 were earned with 16 kills, two service aces, and four assist blocks.  

The Falcons ended the four-set victory with 50 kills hitting .279 on the night. Herman led the Falcon offense with 15 kills, two service aces, and one block assist for 17.5 total points.

Kebisek posted 43 of the 50 Falcons assists and came out with six digs as well.

Althoff finished with a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. He added three service aces as well.

Junior Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) totaled one solo block and four block assists to lead the Falcon net defense.

The Falcons continue NACC play on Wednesday inside the R. John Buuck when they take on Rockford.
