Falcons fall in three-setter at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Marian slowly pulled away in each set on Saturday afternoon en route to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-15) victory over Concordia Wisconsin in NACC play.

THE BASICS

Records: Marian 10-13, 3-6 NACC; Concordia Wisconsin 0-23, 0-9 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The match got more competitive as it went on, but Marian's experienced proved to be too much for Concordia Wisconsin to handle. The Sabres have 10 upperclassmen on their roster.
- Concordia Wisconsin trailed by a point, 5-4, early on but Marian put together a 12-3 scoring run afterward to turn the momentum in its favor and own an 18-7 lead. The hosts wouldn't look back before winning the first set.
- During the third frame, the Falcons were within two points, 13-11, after assembling a 5-3 scoring run. However, the Sabres responded with a 9-1 scoring run of their own to push the set and match out of reach.
- A trio of Falcons had three kills, while freshman Matthew Korman (Roscoe, Ill.) recorded 11 assists and seven digs.

THE OPPOSITION
- Aaron Wednels led all players with 10 kills; while Jon Smallpage and Ben Walter ended with eight and seven kills, respectively.
- Joey Dittman had 31 assists and Cullen Liberski dug seven attack attempts.
- Marian had 12 service aces.
