Falcons’ front line defense performs well

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin recorded 7.0 total blocks on Wednesday night during its NACC match against Marian, but it wasn't enough during a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-17) defeat inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons started out and closed strong with 3.0 total blocks in the first and third sets, showing their front line defense was clicking together. It was their second-most blocks in a match this season. Leading the defensive performance was freshman Blake Schwandt (Kenosha, Wis.) who had a pair of solo blocks and four block assists, while freshman Sam Rovik (Silver Lake, Wis.) recorded three block assists.
- Concordia Wisconsin and Marian went back and forth in the third set, as there were nine scoring ties and three lead changes. The hosts led 12-10 after a quick three-point run, but the visitors responded with a 10-1 scoring run.
- Schwandt and freshman Will Driver (Mokena, Ill.) each had three kills, while freshman Isaac Glynn (Byron, Minn.) tallied 10 assists.

THE OPPOSITION
- Aaron Wendels smashed a match-high 12 kills, while Jon Smallpage and Jacob DeGroot posted eight and six kills, respectively. Joey Dittman assisted on 28 kills and Wendels dialed up three service aces.
- Cullen Liberski dug a match-best 10 attack attempts.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- Concordia Wisconsin will hit the road this weekend for NACC matches on Friday at MSOE (7 pm) and on Saturday at Lakeland (1 pm).
