Men’s Volleyball competes against Fontbonne, Maranatha Baptist

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin played well in the early going of its non-conference matches on Friday afternoon, before eventually falling 3-0 to Maranatha Baptist (25-10, 25-20, 25-14) and Fontbonne (25-14, 25-12, 25-15) inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- To begin the day, Concordia Wisconsin pushed Maranatha Baptist to a 14-14 tie in the opening set before the visitors went on an 11-5 scoring run to take an early 1-0 lead. The Sabercats offense got strong as the match progressed and hit .400 in the final set to earn a sweeping victory.
- The Falcons hung with Fontbonne and found themselves down 17-12 in the opening frame, before an 8-2 run pulled the visitors away from a quick 1-0 lead in the match. The experienced Griffins ran away with the next two sets and hit .400 for the non-conference match in a 3-0 win.
- Freshman Sam Rovik (Silver Lake, Wis.) tallied 14 combined kills and seven digs for Concordia Wisconsin in the two matches. Freshman Blake Schwandt (Kenosha, Wis.) had seven kills and three blocks, while freshman Isaac Glynn (Byron, Minn.) recorded 21 assists and eight digs. Freshman Matthew Korman (Roscoe, Ill.) had 14 assists and eight digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Concordia Wisconsin's 23 kills, 20 assists and 34 digs against Maranatha Baptist is the most this season in a three-set match.

THE OPPOSITION
- Derek Wallis led all players with 12 kills, while Andrew Carpenter had 10 kills for Maranatha Baptist. Matt Wetzel and Tim Kile had 16 and 14 assists, respectively. Taylor Dafoe and Joel Depue recorded a combined 28 digs for the Sabercats.
- Fontbonne played 17 players in the match and was led by Mark Klusman, who tallied seven kills and three digs. Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell had a match-high 23 assists, while Jacob Lendy posted 13 assists.
