CUW falls in heartbreaking fashion

MEQUON, Wis. – The historical 2021 season came to an end for the Falcons in overtime of the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals. The Blue and White fell to St. Scholastica on Wednesday, 5-4. The Falcons end the year with a 9-12-0 record.

The Saints scored 10 minutes into the game on a five on three advantage.

Senior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) scored off a steal from junior Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.).

Senior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) scored on a breakaway before a St. Scholastica penalty off passes from Nick Guiney and freshman Tyler Pang (Victoria, B.C.).

The Saints retook the lead with a pair of goals to start the third period.

Senior Luke Ranallo found the back of the net to tie the game after 40 minutes. Junior Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and senior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.) had the CUW assists.

Freshman Michael Makarenko (Calgary, Alta.) tied the game with under 10 minutes to play, off assists to Luc Kreuser and junior Brandon MacKinnon (Etobicoke, Ont.).

The Falcons went into their third overtime of the year with high energy.

Junior Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) made a collection of spectacular saves, despite getting ran into on multiple occasions.

The Saints scored 12:28 into the overtime period to secure the victory.

Bo Didur finished the game with 36 saves.
