Bulldogs bite Men’s Hockey in the season opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons fell short in their season opener in a thrilling and high-scoring game. Adrian improved to 3-4-0 with the 7-4 victory.

The Bulldogs opened the game on a 4-0 run in the first 16 minutes of play.

Senior Luke Ranallo (St. Paul, Minn.) put the Falcons on the scoreboard 17 minutes into the game off assists from freshman Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) and sophomore Brandon Picard (Montreal, Que.).

The Falcons continued to cut into the Adrian lead with a power-play goal in the second period from senior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.). Senior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) and senior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.) added the assists to the goal.

The Bulldogs added what would turn out to be the winning goal to close the second period.

Nick Guerra struck again on the power play for his second goal off the game off passes from Nick Guiney and junior Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.).

Freshman Michael Makarenko (Calgary, Alta.) tipped in a goal 9:51 into the third period off a shot from Braydon Barker to close the CUW scoring to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Adrian scored two more goals to close the game, including an empty-net goal.

The Bulldogs held a 40-28 advantage in shots.

Braydon Barker led the Falcons with six shots.

Junior Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) finished with 33 saves.

The Falcons struck twice on six power-play opportunities.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday.
