Falcons Sweep Sewanee

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW field hockey team brought out the brooms on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Sewanee. The victory pushes Concordia to 4-5 on the season.

Senior Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) started the scoring with a goal in the 22nd minute with a shot from 10 yards out of a pass from junior Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.).

Freshman Paige Armijo (Reseda, Calif.) dashed the comeback hopes with a goal in the 57th minute as she stuffed in a rebound from sophomore Caroline Slick (Spotsylvania, Va.).

Junior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) posted three saves in the cage on Sunday.

The 2-0 victory was the third career shutout for Binley.

The Falcons pelted the Sewanee net with 24 shots on Sunday, led by Megan McPike with eight shots.

The sweep over Sewanee is the first-weekend sweep over one team in program history. The last time that the Falcons have gone undefeated in a multi-game weekend was in November 2019 with victories over Converse and Transylvania.

The Falcons will fly east to Virginia to play at Christopher Newport on Saturday morning.
