Field Hockey Sinks Sewanee

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW field hockey team knocked another monkey off the shoulder on Saturday morning with a 3-1 victory over Sewanee in the SAA opener for both teams. The victory is the first for the Falcons over Sewanee and propels CUW to 3-5.

Sophomore Caroline Slick (Spotsylvania, Va.) threw the first punch before halftime with a goal off a corner from sophomore Abby McGue (St. Louis, Mo.) and a pass from junior Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.).

Slick struck again in the third quarter after she redirected in a shot from sophomore Berit Poirier (Vista, Calif.).

The Tigers did not go away quietly and got on the scoreboard at the end of the third quarter.

Senior Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) smashed any comeback hopes with a goal in the 58th minute to seal the victory.

Junior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) posted another stellar performance in the cage with six saves.

The Falcons held a 25-13 advantage in shots on Saturday and were led by Caroline Slick with eight.

The Blue and White look to complete the sweep of Sewanee on Sunday morning.
