Strong 2nd half propels Falcons past Lady Reds

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin overcame a one-goal deficit midway through the second half by scoring the game's final four markers to defeat Carthage, 11-8, on Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field. The win extended the Falcons home winning streak to 10 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons led for a brief stretch during the first 46 minutes of play at Fitting Field until they scored four unanswered tallied during the final 13 minutes and 27 seconds to win the non-conference matchup.
- CUW tied the score four times throughout the game, but it was freshman Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) who ended up finding the back of the net on a free-position attempt for the game-winner with 8:53 left in the game. They added two more goals for insurance over the final six-plus minutes to defeat the Lady Reds for the first time in eight attempts.
- Freshman Lauren Paquin (Waukesha, Wis.) continues to record impressive statistics, as she had a game-high five goals to go along with an assist, two caused turnovers, two draw control wins and a ground ball.
- Senior Sabrina Boehlke (Kewaskum, Wis.) and sophomore Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) each had two goals and an assist, respectively. Boehlke caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls, while Kurek registered three caused turnovers, four ground balls and four draw control wins.
- Sophomore Maggie Goodman (Gurnee, Ill.) finished with a goal and assist. Sophomore Caitlin Henry (Lansing, Ill.) recorded three draw control wins.
- Junior Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) had eight saves during a complete game winning effort.
- The Falcons broke a slump and scored three times on free-position attempts, which is a season best. They also turned the ball over a season-low 17 times.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Paquin netted a pair of free-position goals, which is tied for the fourth most in a game in program history.
- CUW is now 4-1 over its last five non-conference regular season games.
- The Falcons have won 10-consecutive home games dating back to March 22, 2015, which is the longest streak in program history. During that span they have won by an average of 9.4 goals per victory.

THE OPPOSITION
- Rachel Mussell and Kara Vana each had a pair of goals, and four other Lady Red players found the back of the net.
- Maddie Griffin ended with two caused turnovers, two ground balls and three draw controls wins, while also scoring once.
- Taylor Sopron made 12 saves, including seven in the opening half, during a complete game losing effort.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons host Carroll on Thursday at 5 pm in a rescheduled game that was supposed to take place last week, but winter weather forced the postponement.
