Dinner of Champions highlights success over past year

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin took the time to recognize four athletic programs and 10 individuals for their achievements on the playing field over the past year during a special Dinner of Champions on Sunday night.

The event, hosted by President Rev. Dr. Patrick T. Ferry and his wife Dr. Tammy Ferry, gave Falcon student-athletes and teams a night to reflect on their hard work, dedication and commitment to being the best in their respective sport.

The dinner was highlighted by guest speaker Ben Askren – a 2008 Olympian, four-time NCAA Division I Wrestling All-American and two-time NCAA Champion and Dan Hodge Trophy winner – who spoke on his five concepts to being successful. Askren spoke on discipline, perseverance and persistence, problem solving, emotional maturity and commitment are what will translate to success from the athletic field to the professional world.

Recognized at the event were Women’s Lacrosse (2016 MWLC regular season and tournament champions), Women’s Volleyball (2016 NACC regular season and tournament champions), Women’s Tennis (2015-16 NACC Tournament champions, 2016-17 NACC regular season champions), Women’s Basketball (2016-17 NACC regular season champions), Mason Baumgartner (NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship Qualifier), Mason Mergener (NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship Qualifier), Cassandra Sprotte (2017 NACC Indoor 800-meter and mile champion), Nora Imperl (2016 NACC Outdoor and 2017 NACC Indoor 3,000-meter and 3,000-meter steeplechase champion), Taylor Corkum (2017 NACC Indoor pole vault champion), Colleen Sauvey (2017 NACC Indoor weight throw champion), Samual Spranger (2017 NACC Indoor 400-meter and 4x400-meter champion), Samual Spranger, Silas Hasselbrook, Logan Hass and Damon Nick (2016 NACC Outdoor 4x400-meter champion), Marya Haegler (2016 NACC Outdoor 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter champion), Nicole Larson (2016 NACC Outdoor pole vault champion and NCAA All-American), Gavin Falotico (2016 NACC Outdoor javelin champion).
