Augustana runs past Women's Lacrosse

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana scored the game's first seven goals to take all the momentum during a commanding 14-2 non-conference victory over Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at Thorson-Lucken Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Vikings scored three goals within a two-and-a-half minute span midway through the first half to start blowing the game wide open. Following a 5-0 halftime lead, Augustana added two more scores within the first 3:31 to start the start the second half.
- The Falcons scored their first goal of the contest with 25:16 to play in the game when sophomore Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) found the back of the net.
- Augustana answered with six unanswered goals to extend its lead to 13-1 with just under six minutes to play.
- Sophomore Caitlin Henry (Lansing, Ill.) scored the Falcons only other goal, unassisted, with 3:51 to play in the contest.
- The Vikings held a 37-7 lead in shots, including 30-3 on goal, 14-4 advantage in draw control wins and scored on 3-of-6 free position attempts. The Falcons turned the ball over 29 times and were 13-of-25 on clear attempts.
- Junior Veronika Metanova made 16 saves in net, including 11 during the opening half. She also caused two turnovers.
- Senior Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) picked up a team-high five ground balls, but had seven turnovers. Henry also picked up a career-high-tying four ground balls and junior Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) scooped up three ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons have now been outscored by the Vikings 33-15 in the last two meetings. Augustana defeated CUW in the NCAA Division III Tournament last season.
- Metanova's 16 saves were tied for the fifth most in a game in program history.

THE OPPOSITION
- Olivia Mayer led all scorers with four markers. Emily Handrahan added a hat trick, while Kendall Maduro and Rebecca Pollard each had two scores. Handrahan scored 2-of-3 free-position attempts.
- Pollard picked up a game-best six ground balls, while four of her teammates had three ground balls. A trio of Vikings caused two turnovers.
- Analia Fowler earned the win in goal after making just one save.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons play back-to-back non-conference games at home this coming week, starting with a Wednesday 4:30 contest against Carthage followed by a 5 pm matchup versus Carroll.
