Women's Lacrosse chosen to win MWLC title

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin was selected to win the 2016 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference title in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the second-consecutive year the Falcons were chosen as the top team in the league.

The Falcons received seven first-place votes and 78 total points. CUW cruised through the 2015 season with an undefeated 7-0 MWLC record and went on to win the MWLC Tournament Championship in convincing fashion. They set numerous records throughout last season's campaign and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in program history.

Aurora finished second in the poll with two first-place votes and 72 points, while Augsburg had a first-place vote and 68 points. Beloit was predicted third with 57 points, Illinois Institute of Technology fifth with 45 points and Benedictine was sixth (37 points). Wartburg was seventh (34 points), Loras eighth (28 points), Cornell ninth (19 points) and Concordia Chicago rounded out the 10-team poll with 12 points.

The 2016 season opens on March 5 for the Falcons with a home MWLC game at 4 pm against Augsburg. The MWLC Tournament is scheduled for May 6-7 at the top seed in the league.
