Volleyball season ends with NACC Tournament setback at Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Volleyball team saw its 2015 season come to an end Thursday with a 3-1 setback against Dominican in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Stars downed the Falcons 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17 in the NACC Tournament Semifinals at the Igini Sports Forum.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead with victories in the first two sets Thursday night. The Falcons actually outhit Dominican with a .162 mark compared to a .146 mark in the opening set, but ended up with 11 less attempts. DU had its best attacking set in the second, using a .312 attack percentage to go up 2-0.

- The Falcons picked play up in the third set, gaining a 25-19 win thanks to a .205 attack percentage. The CUW defense held the Stars to a .085 attack percentage in the third set win as well. DU would respond, however with a 25-17 set-four victory for the win.

- Sophomore Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) paced the Falcons with 11 kills in the match, while freshman Makenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) had a .350 attack percentage and eight kills.

- Dominican was led by a trio of players who finished with double-digit kills in the match. Tessa Griparis posted a 14-kill effort, leading all players, while finishing with an impressive .522 attack percentage to lead the Stars.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- Freshman Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) finished with a match-high 26 digs for the Falcons. It was the third highest total of the season for Casper, who had two 29-dig matches earlier in the year.

- The Falcons finished the year with 18 wins, the second most for the program in the past five years. CUW had a program-best 24 victories a season ago.

- Junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) and freshman Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) each had double-digit assists for CUW Thursday. Klotz assisted on 15 kills, while Sedo dished out 11 assists.

- Sedo also added 10 digs in the match for her seventh double-double of the season. Sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) and senior Kelsa Rubeck (Eau Claire, Wis.) also finished with double-digit digs, recording 13 and 10, respectively.
