CUW wins a thriller at Lakeland

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – In a match that was back and forth all night long, Concordia University Wisconsin came away with a big road win against Lakeland in a five set thriller.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 3, Lakeland 2 (12-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 17-15)
Location: Woltzen Gymnasium (Sheboygan, Wis.)
Records: Lakeland 9-13 (3-2 NACC), Concordia Wisconsin 12-7 (5-0 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW got off to a quick lead but Lakeland responded and ran away with a 25-12 first set win. The Falcons hit -.200 (3K-9E-30A), while the Muskies finished with a .233 attack percentage (11K-4E-30A).
- In a very intense and exciting second set, CUW bounced back with 26-24 set win. The Falcons trailed twice by one late in the set but two very big, back to back kills by sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) gave the Falcons the lead back, which they would not give up the rest of the set.
- Sophomore Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) led the Falcons offensive attack in the second set with six kills.
- After a back and forth third set that consisted of nine ties and four lead changes, CUW was not able to overcome a late run by Lakeland and fell 20-25.
- The Falcons would bounce back in set four after an impressive 13-5 run to end the fourth set and a 25-21 win to force a fifth set.
- In the fifth and final set it looked like the Falcons were down for the count, trailing 14-11, CUW dug deep and put together a 6-1 to take the set and the match.
- Freshman Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) and junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) led the Falcons defense with 23 and 22 digs respectively.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 18 kills in the second set by the Falcons is the second most kills in a set this season.
- Nevinski had a career night leading CUW with a career high 15 kills on the night.
- Freshman Makenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.), Moegenburg and Nevinski all finished the night with double-digit kills.
- This is the fourth time this season the Falcons have gone into five sets.
- Defensively CUW had five players with double-digit digs and three players that finished the night with double-doubles.

THE OPPOSITION
- Allison Errthum led Lakeland with a match high 19 kills. Hannah Scherer also added 12 kills.
- Taylor Levit led all players with 46 assists for the match.
- Caleigh Galvan led the Muskies defensively with a game high 38 digs.
