Falcons upended by NACC leader Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin dug itself an early deficit by losing the first two sets and couldn't dig out of the hole during a 3-1 (21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 14-25) loss to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference leader Edgewood College. Even know the score didn't go how the Falcons wanted, they did clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW was competitive during the opening two sets, despite being on the losing end. They trailed the entire first frame and knotted the scoreboard at 23-23 in the second set, but the Eagles offense smashed a kill and took advantage of a Falcons errors.
- The Falcons took the third set to gain momentum in the match after maintaining at least a four point lead from the midpoint in the set to the finish.
- Edgewood overwhelmed CUW in the fourth set, as the hosts jumped out to an 8-2 lead and put the advantage to 17-8 before going on to score eight of the last 10 points.
- The Falcons recorded a .083 attack percentage (42K-30E-144A), while the Eagles hit .163 (43K-20E-141A). CUW hit negative in the opening set, but responded with its best offensive set of the night and had a .216 attack percentage (12K-4E-37A) in frame two. Edgewood hit over .200 in the second and fourth sets.
- Sophomore Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) paced the visitors with 10 kills, while sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) added eight kills. In all, six Falcons had at least four kills in a balanced effort.
- The setting duo of freshman Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) and junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) directed the offense with 19 and 18 assists, respectively.
- Defensively, Sedo led four Falcons with double-figure digs with 16, while senior Kelsa Rubeck (Eau Claire, Wis.) dug 15 attack attempts. Moegenburg and sophomore Lindsey Capser (Hubertus, Wis.) recorded 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
- The Falcons finished with 12 block assists and Moegenburg led the team with four. Freshman Amanda Schultz (North Prairie, Wis.) and Nevinski each ended with three block assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Despite the loss, the Falcons clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament. Their seed in the postseason play is still undetermined with league matches scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
- It was the fifth-consecutive match the Falcons have recorded double-digit block assists.

THE OPPOSITION
- Jordan Winkler led the Eagles with 13 kills and Savannah Koester smashed 10 kills of her own. They had five players with five or more kills.
- Alex Zapuchlak and Haley Schwenn combined for 37 of the team's 41 assists. Winkler and Emily Chaussee each served three aces.
- Rachel Tesch dug a match-best 26 attack attempts, while Chaussee and Winkler finished with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
- Edgewood recorded 16 block assists, with Renee Meister recording five of those. Elizabeth Evans had four block assists and Jenna Dammen had three block assists.

- CUW will travel to Alverno for a Friday 7 pm NACC match before hosting Rockford on Saturday at 12 pm on Senior Day.
