Volleyball nets Senior Day sweep over Rockford

MEQUON, Wis. – Kelsa Rubeck and Alexis Hermes had a fitting Senior Day Saturday at the R. John Buuck Field House. The senior duo helped the Falcons post a 3-0 sweep over Rockford University in the final regular season home match of the regular season for CUW. The Falcons will have at least one more home match, however, in the opening round of the NACC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Falcons opened with a 25-17 first-set win despite being outhit by the Regents. CUW posted a .269 attack percentage in the opening set, recording 14 kills. Rockford had a better hitting percentage (.292), but only had nine kills as the Falcons pushed ahead.

- CUW was most dominant in the second set, cruising to a 25-15 win, before holding on for a 25-23 set three victory. The Falcons hit .237 in the second set, and added a .135 mark in the third, while holding Rockford under .100 over each of the final two frames.

- Junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) assisted on 22 of the Falcons 44 kills in the match, while freshman Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) added 11 assists. No Falcon reached double-digit kills, but sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) paced the team with nine kills.

- Sophomore Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had an extremely efficient match for the Falcons, gaining seven kills on eight attempts. She posted a .875 attack percentage in the win.

- Freshman Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) added 13 digs in the match for the Falcons.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- Rubeck (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Hermes (Trevor, Wis.) were honored before the match for their contributions to the Falcons program. The two have helped transform the Falcons into one of the top teams in the NACC over the past couple seasons.

- The Falcons clinched the No. 3 seed in the NACC Tournament last night and will host Benedictine in the opening round, scheduled for Tuesday, November 3 at 7 p.m. Benedictine tied with Wisconsin Lutheran for the No. 6 seed, but won the tiebreaker thanks to head-to-head results.

UP NEXT

- CUW will play in the Barker Classic, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan, next weekend. The Falcons will take on Carthage on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. before playing two contests Saturday.
