Falcons sweep Cougars to remain undefeated in NACC play

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin was balanced in both facets of the match on Saturday afternoon en route to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-20) victory over Concordia University Chicago during Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons jumped all over the Cougars to begin the match, leading 11-3 midway through and 22-8 near the end of the first set. They won the opening frame 25-11 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
- CUW did more of the same in the second set, going ahead 10-2 early and leading 18-8 over halfway through. A 25-15 set victory gave the Falcons a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
- The third set was more competitive, with the Cougars leading 18-13 before the Falcons found their rhythm and turned it on. A 12-2 scoring run gave the hosts a decisive sweep.
- CUW hit .198 (36K-17E-96A) in the match compared to CUC's dismal -.082 (14K-20E-73A).
- Sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) and Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) paced CUW with seven kills each, while junior Amanda Lehnerz (West Bend, Wis.) and freshman Mackenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) added six kills each.
- Junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) led all players with 20 assists, while freshman Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) assisted on 12 kills of her own.
- Freshman Lindsey Capser (Hubertus, Wis.) led the Falcons with nine digs and Paszek dug eight attack attempts to lead another balanced defensive effort.
- Up front it was Moegenburg who had three block assists.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The victory was the eighth sweep of the season for the Falcons and in back-to-back nights. They also remained atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings.
- The Falcons had six players smash at least four kills in the sweep.
- CUW allowed just 46 points, which surpassed Friday's night total to become the fewest points scored by an opponent during a three-set match this season.
- The Falcons ended their eight-match homestand with a 5-3 record during the stretch. 

THE OPPOSITION
- Austin Thompson led the Cougars with five kills and Nicoletta Crowley assisted on nine points.
- Nicole Inwards dug a match-best 10 attack attempts, while Sarah Smith had two block assists and solo block.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons step away from NACC play for a 7 pm non-conference contest at UW-Whitewater on Tuesday.
