Paszek leads Falcons in sweep over Spartans

MEQUON, Wis. – Makenzie Paszek led Concordia University Wisconsin to a sweep of Aurora University on Friday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House. The victory moved the Falcons atop the NACC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons jumped all over the Spartans from the onset and had its best offensive match of the season. CUW gave up the opening point before scoring seven unanswered to take all momentum.
- They led by as many as six points in the opening set and tallied six of the last seven points to earn a 25-15 set one victory.
- CUW scored in bunches during the second frame and turned a two-point deficit, 5-3, into a 16-9 lead midway through. The second set victory featured the Falcons scoring five of the last six points for a 25-13 win to take a 2-0 lead.
- A quick 9-2 advantage in the third set for the Falcons wasn't enough as they had to fight off a determined Spartans team. After an 18-18 tie, CUW went on a 7-4 scoring run for their seven sweep of the season.
- They hit .381 (40K-8E-84A) compared to the opposition's .012 (21K-20E-83A) in the three-set sweep. CUW also recorded 14 block assists and dug 39 attack attempts for a solid defensive performance.
- Freshman Mackenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) led all players with 10 kills and hit an impressive .353 in the match, while sophomore Megan Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) added seven kills on an outstanding .429 attack percentage.
- Sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) led the charge up the middle with eight kills and a .571 attack percentage, while junior Amanda Lehnerz (West Bend, Wis.) and sophomore Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) each had five kills.
- The setting duo of junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) and freshman Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) assisted on 18 and 16 kills, respectively.
- Defensively, freshman Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) had a match-high nine digs and Moegenburg assisted on four blocks.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons .381 attack percentage was nearly 100 percentage points higher than their .282 attack percentage in a sweep over Maranatha Baptist on Sept. 12.
- It was Paszek's sixth double-figure kill match and her second highest attack percentage of the season.
- CUW's 50 points allowed were the fewest in a sweep this season.
- The Falcons 40 kills were the fourth most in a three-set match this season.
- On a negative note, the Falcons 13 service errors were the most this season.

THE OPPOSITION
- Peyton McKenzie led the Spartans with eight kills, while Destiny Stuersel assisted on 19 kills.
- McKenzie also served a match-best five aces.
- Defensively, Stuersel dug seven attack attempts.

- CUW concludes an eight-match homestand on Saturday with a 12 pm Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match against Concordia Chicago.
