Volleyball drops season opener

CHICAGO – Concordia University Wisconsin faced a formidable opponent on Tuesday night during a 3-0 season-opening loss at the University of Chicago inside the Ratner Center. The Maroon are currently receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maroon took control early with a 4-0 led to start the match and eventually were in front 18-5 to set the tone early.
- The Falcons led for short period after going ahead 2-0 to begin the second set, which was their only led of the match.
- Chicago went in front by double-digits in each set of the victory, also their season-opening match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons were unable to score more than 13 points in any of the three sets, while recording just 18 kills in the sweeping loss.
- Sophomore Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) led CUW with six kills and three blocks assists, and junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) assisted on 13 kills. Freshman Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) led the defensive efforts with seven digs.
- CUW ended with 20 errors and hit -.022, their worst since hitting -.047 on Sept. 6 of 2013 (dating back 63 matches).
 
THE OPPOSITION
- Maren Loe and Taylor David led the Maroon with 14 and 12 kills, respectively, on a combined 50 attempts.
- Ragine Graves directed the offense to the tune of 30 assists, while serving a pair of aces and leading all players with 13 digs.
- Chicago finished with a .390 attack percentage.
 
UP NEXT FOR CUW
- The Falcons travel to River Forest, Ill., on Saturday for the Concordia Invitational Tournament. They are scheduled to play Concordia Ann Arbor at 12 pm before competing against host Concordia Chicago at 2 pm.
