No. 12 UW-Whitewater sweeps CUW

WHITEWATER, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin was overwhelmed on Tuesday night during a 3-0 (12-25, 17-25, 14-25) loss at No. 12 UW-Whitewater during non-conference action inside Russell Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW couldn't get find its offensive rhythm against UW-Whitewater in the straight-set loss. The Falcons hit just .054 (26K-20E-112A), while the Warhawks finished with a .272 attack percentage (44K-13E-114A).
- During the opening set, UW-Whitewater jumped out to a commanding 7-1 lead and extended it to 16-6 midway through. The Warhawks would go on to take the opener 25-12 for a 1-0 lead in the match.
- Again, another scoring run to begin the second frame put the Falcons in a hole they couldn't get out of. An 8-1 deficit was nearly overcome as CUW clawed back and got to within 13-12, but five unanswered points by UW-Whitewater gave them the momentum back. The hosts would go on to take the second set 25-17 for a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Courtney Wagner was a force for the Warhawks, as she smashed three kills during their 10-2 scoring run to start the third set. From then on both teams would trade points before UW-Whitewater earned the sweep with a third-set 25-14 victory.
- Freshman Mackenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) paced the Falcons with 10 kills, while sophomore Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had six kills.
- Junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) and freshman Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) directed the offense for 12 and eight assists, respectively.
- Defensively, freshman Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) led CUW with 13 digs and Paszek dug 10 attack attempts of her own. As well, four Falcons recorded two block assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- CUW failed to record a service ace for the first time this season.
- The Falcons .054 attack percentage was the second worst since the season opener when they hit -.022 at Chicago.
- The non-conference match is the last for the Falcons until they compete in the Barker Classic at Illinois Wesleyan at the end of the month (Oct. 30-31).

THE OPPOSITION
- Brittney Langley and Lauren Pfeifer each had 11 kills for the Warhawks, while Courtney Wagner ended with seven kills.
- Staci Hasler posted 31 assists and three service aces. Brittany Robinson and Pfeifer added three and two services aces, respectively.
- Robinson led a trio of Warhawks with 22 digs, while Tessa Weber dug 13 attack attempts and Hasler recorded 10 digs.
- Wagner, Langley and Angelika Pointer each had three block assists.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons travel to Lakeland for a 7 pm Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match on Saturday.
