Volleyball opens home stand with a pair of non-conference wins

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin protected their home court with a pair of non-conference wins Saturday afternoon defeating Maranatha Baptist and Lake Forest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons opened up their eight-game home stand with a pair of wins defeating Maranatha Baptist 3-0 and Lake Forest 3-0.
- The Falcons were led by freshman Makenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) who had 15 kills which tied her career-high. Sophomore Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) added eight kills to help lead the Falcons over the Sabercats.
- Sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) led CUW defensively with five block assists and also added 11 digs.
- The Falcons front line defense recorded 10 total team blocks against Maranatha Baptist and three players had double-digit digs.
- In their second match of the day, CUW had a .248 attack percentage (41K-16E-101A) compared to Lake Forest who only had a .138 attack percentage (26K-14E-87A).
- Paszek led the Falcons in kills again with 10 and both Moegenburg and junior Amanda Lehnerz (West Bend, Wis.) each added eight kills.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- To close out the first set against Maranatha, Moegenburg had a huge kill and block to give the Falcons the win after the Sabercats gave the Falcons a little scare.
- CUW served the ball well against Maranatha serving eight service aces in the match, their second highest amount in a game this season.
- The Falcons never trailed in the third set against both the Sabercats and the Foresters.
- Junior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) and freshman Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) combined for 68 of the teams 80 assists in CUW's two victories.
- Klatz posted her second double-double of the season in match two with 18 assists and 10 digs, which led the team.
- With these two wins CUW has now extended their winning streak to seven games.

THE OPPOSITION
- Julia Gunst led Maranatha Baptist with 20 assists, but no Sabercat was able to reach double-digit kills. Stacy Reinke led the Sabercats with nine kills each.
- Lake Forest was the second-straight opponent held without a player in double-digit kills. Bailey Everhart reached nine kills. Lexi Kleva led the Foresters with 13 assists against CUW.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons continue their home stand next weekend in the NACC-IIAC Challenge when they face off against Central at 3 pm and Buena Vista at 7 pm on Friday, September 25. CUW will then take on Wartburg at noon and Coe at 4 pm on Saturday, September 26.
