Falcons foiled in final minute

MADISON, Wis.  Edgewood College was awarded a penalty kick in the 89th minute of play and the successul conversion by Ashley Alonso gave the Eagles a "hard to swallow" 2-1 win over CUW Wednesday night in Madison.

Concordia's Lauren Straehler (Sr./ Pewaukee, Wis.) had tied the score at 1-1 on a 35 yard bomb with 16 minutes left in regulation before the final call ended an evenly played and otherwise exciting match.

Ryan Middendorf's team was forced to play without all conference defender Ashley Apazeller who was ill and CUW also lost midfielder Chelsea Driver to a knee injury during the contest.

CUW (6-2-0) in the NAC outshot the Eagles 12-8 on the evening and appeared to have the momentum as regulation wound down prior to the fatal whistle.

Edgewood, now 6-1-0 in the NAC and 10-2-0 overall, broke a scoreless tie at the 61 minute mark on Elaine Gerry's 12th goal of the season.

Ryan Middendorf's team will attempt to recover from consecutive setbacks when they host Benedictine Satuday at 1:00pm.
