Falcon women squeeze past Alverno 38-35
Milwaukee
Concordia (13-2) struggled mightily with 25% field goal shooting
but held on with staunch defense to defeat host Alverno 38-35 last
evening.
A pair of clutch free throws by Melanie Kulibert with :13 remaining
gave CUW that 38-35 lead and forced Alverno to attempt a game-tying
3 pointer that missed just before the buzzer.
Both teams were as cold as the outside temperature but Stacey
Brunner-Jones' team stayed in the NAC title hunt with a critical
win.
Concordia center Kendall Kerns was the only player on either team
to solve the frigid rims, hitting 8 of 16 shots from the field and
3 of 6 free throws for a game-high 19 points. Her teammates were a
measly 6-41 (15%) for the game. Alverno (9-11 overall) was just as
woeful from the field, knocking down just 13 of 54 shots (24%).
Kerns, Katie Luethe, and Melanie Kulibert combined to snare 30 of
CUW's 45 rebounds.
