Falcon women drop 70-69 thriller

Falcon women drop 70-69 thriller

Milwaukee

Erika Laete put in a rebound basket with :01 remaining to give host Wisconsin Lutheran (14-2) a thrilling 70-69 win over the Falcons (14-3) last evening.

Laete's score came after CUW missed a bonus free throw opportunity with just eight seconds left.

The game was hotly contested from start to finish with neither team having more than a six point advantage in the second half. Concordia took a 3 point lead on a pair of

Kendall Kerns free throws with :18 remaining in the game but Shavon Dillon's layup cut the deficit to 1 with :13 left.

WLC fouled with :10 remaining and the missed Falcon free throw was quickly transitioned into the game-winner as Dillon's last ditch heave was put in off the glass by the ever-present Laete.

It was a crushing defeat for the Falcons who have won the last four NAC titles, but will need WLC to drop one of their final two conference games to earn a tie for the 2010-11 regular season crown.

Kerns led CUW scoring with 18 and freshman Katie Luethe added 14.

The Falcons were outrebounded 47-29 but almost made up for it by holding Wisconsin Lutheran (19-3 overall) to 36% shooting.

Laete finished with 30 points and 14 rebounds.
