Spartans Take Game One of Weekend Series

GENEVA, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's ice hockey team continued Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action with a road matchup against the nationally ranked Aurora Spartans, currently ranked fourth in the nation according to the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll.

The Falcons fell 7-0, dropping their overall record to 10-8-0 and their conference mark to 5-6-0.

Aurora struck early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals at 5:34 and 9:43. The Spartans then extended their advantage in the second period, adding two more goals at 6:21 and 8:40 to make it 4-0.

Despite strong efforts from the Falcons, Aurora sealed the 7-0 victory, handing Concordia the loss.

In the defeat, junior Dain Sardelli (Hebron, N.D.) and sophomore Loygan Kroyman (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) led the offensive charge, each registering five shots on goal. Meanwhile, sophomore Sawyer Wirsing (Arundel, Maine) and junior Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.) each won a team-high nine faceoffs.

On the defensive end, freshman Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ont.), sophomore Matt Koepke (Vernon Hills, Ill.), and sophomore Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ont.) each blocked two shots. In goal, junior Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) made 44 saves.

The Blue and White will look to rebound in the next matchup against the Spartans, this time at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
