MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team finished off its second consecutive series against the number-four-ranked team in the nation on Saturday night. No. 4 Aurora improved to 16-3-0 on the year and 10-2-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with the 5-2 victory. Concordia moves to 10-9-0 and 5-7-0 in the NCHA.
Defense reigned supreme in the first half with neither team finding the back of the net.
The Spartans lit the lamp at 2:50 in the second period with their 21st power-play goal of the season.
The Falcons tied the game on the power play when freshman Levi Carter (Keremeos, B.C.) found junior Derrick Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.) on the far side of the net off a pass in front of the net and off a secondary assist from sophomore Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ont.).
The Blue and White took the lead on a 4x4 on a sharp-angled from freshman Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ont.) shot off assists from sophomore Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.) and Riley Klugerman.
Aurora countered with a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead.
Freshman Cameron Hrdlicka (Calgary, Alta.) finished the contest with 42 saves.
The Spartans surged on Saturday with a 47-21 advantage in shots.
The Falcons look to bounce back on Friday at Lawrence.
