Falcons Snipe the Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Falcons passed another Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) test on Saturday afternoon at Marian with a 3-0 victory. The Blue and White silenced the Sabres to the tune of a 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 victory to 15-6 and to 9-0 in the NACC.

The serve of senior Jenna Chaussee (Chilton, Wis.) pushed the Falcons up to an early 5-1 lead in the first set. The birds pushed the lead up to four points on multiple occasions but the Sabres rallied to tie the set at 17. CUW earned some separation with three-straight points, but Marian kept close. Leading 23-22, CUW had a kill from sophomore Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and a service ace from junior Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) to claim the set at 25-22.

CUW jumped out to another early lead in the second set with a 5-0 start behind the serve of senior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.). The biggest lead came at 9-3, before Marian stormed back to take a 12-11 lead. The Sabres took a late 20-18 lead before CUW used a 4-0 run to take the lead back for good. A kill from senior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) captured the set at 25-22.

The Falcons took an early lead in the third set and never looked back. CUW grew the lead and never let the Black and Blue get closer than seven points late in the set.

The Blue and White boasted a balanced attack with six Falcons having five or more kills. CUW was led by Freshman Mickenzi Benter (Appleton, Wis.), Jenna Chaussee and Maycee Karpfinger all with seven kills.

Jenna Chaussee showed once again why she is one of the best defenders in the NACC with a match-high 15 digs. She and Karpfinger also had two service aces.

Sierra Lee dished out 19 assists in the victory.

Maycee Karpfinger had a block party with six blocks against the Sabres.
