Falcons Clip Concordia Chicago

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons extended their home winning streak to 25 matches on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Concordia Chicago. The Falcons won 25-16, 16-25, 25-15, 25-20 to improve to 10-6 on the year and remain in first place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) at 4-0.

The Falcons took the lead at 5-4 in the first set with a kill from senior Gabriella Kaebisch (Paddock Lake, Wis.) and never looked back. The serve of senior Erika Natzke (Morton Grove, Ill.) pushed the lead up to 9-4. The biggest lead of the set came at 23-14 with a kill from sophomore Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.).

The Cougars flipped the script on CUW and cruised to a 25-16 victory in set two.

The birds broke the third set open with an 11-3 run. Senior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) had three kills to lead the flock in the run. Junior Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) dominated the set with six kills.

The Blue and White took an early lead in the fourth set. A kill from Lauren Shroba put the Falcons ahead 13-7, but the Cougars clawed back to take a 16-15 lead. A kill from senior Jenna Chaussee (Chilton, Wis.) gave the Falcons the lead for good. A 6-1 run caged the Cougars and the Falcons claimed a 25-20 victory to stay unbeaten in NACC play.

Maycee Karpfinger had a match-high 18 kills and hit .406 on the afternoon.

Gabriella Kaebisch hit a blistering 462 with seven kills and also added four blocks. Lauren Shroba had 10 kills with a 438-hitting percentage.

Senior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.) and Erika Natzke both had 28 assists.

Sophomore Emma Essex (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) led the birds with 14 digs in the victory.

Jenna Chaussee had two of the four service aces for CUW on Saturday afternoon.

Aurora knocked off St. Norbert on Saturday to leave the Falcons and the Spartans as the only two undefeated teams in the NACC.

CUW travels to MSOE on Tuesday to return to NACC play.
