Firebirds Burn Falcons in Five Sets

KENOSHA, Wis. – The CUW women's volleyball team fell short in five sets on Wednesday night at Carthage to move to 2-2 on the season. The Firebirds took the match 25-14, 17-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-8.

The Firebirds cruised in the first set with a 25-14 victory.

The Falcons came out soaring in the second set and the serve of senior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.) gave the Firebirds fits with an early 11-0 lead. Lee had six service aces in the run. CUW ran the lead up to 17-4 with a kill from senior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) and took the second set 25-17.

The Blue and White jumped out to an early 6-0 lead behind the serve of senior Jenna Chaussee (Chilton, Wis.). The Falcons closed the set on a 4-1 run to take the third set 25-21.

The Falcons led 23-20 in the fourth set, 23-20, but fell 25-23 and in the fifth set 15-8.

Junior Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) let the Falcons with 13 kills and five blocks.

Jenna Chaussee notched a double-double performance with 24 digs and 10 kills.

Sierra Lee led CUW with 25 assists.

CUW looks to bounce back this weekend at Illinois Wesleyan.
