Dominant defense leads to sweep

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — On Saturday, the Concordia Wisconsin women's volleyball team swept the Raiders of MSOE. The Falcons won 25-18, 28-26 and 25-11. The Falcons improve to 10-5 on the year and 3-0 in NACC play. 

How it Happened:

After a slow start in both sets one and two, the Falcons were able to pull away in the latter stages of the first two sets. The Falcons rounded out the day with a dominating performance in the third set to complete the sweep. 

In set one, both teams began the day slow with the Falcons hitting at .069 percent and holding the Raiders to -.129 percent at the net. Both teams found their groove in the middle set as the Falcons bolstered a .250 hitting percentage and the Raiders hit at .118 percent. 

In the third and final set of the match, the Falcons pummeled the Raiders at the net. The Falcons hit an astounding .318 percent while blanking the Raiders on the stat sheet.

The Falcons hit at .205 as a team on the day, while holding the raiders to .000 as a team. 

Senior Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) led the Falcons with 10 kills, a .205 hitting percentage and nine digs on the day. Senior Ariana Richmond (South Elgin, Ill.) provided strong defense in the back line, recording a match-high 10 digs. Sophomores McKenna Nigl (Richland Center, Wis.) and Olivia Richter (Naperville, Ill.) were forces at the net, each recording five block assists. 

For the Raiders, Italia Fields recorded 10 kills and Bekah Smith had a team-high 9 digs in the back end.

Concordia Wisconsin has a week off before traveling to Alverno next Friday night at 7 p.m.
