Women's Tennis Battled in the NCAA Tournament

CHICAGO – An amazing season came to an end on Thursday for the Falcons. The Concordia Wisconsin women's tennis team made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and faced the Knights of Carleton on Thursday afternoon.

Carleton scored its first point with an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.

The duo of senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and junior Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) put up a valiant effort, but fell, 8-2.

The team of senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and junior Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) put up a strong fight at No. 3 doubles, but lost, 8-4.

The Knights clinched the match with victories on courts two and six.

Ricki Budewitz was leading the second set at No. 1 singles before the match was called at 2-1.

With the 5-0 victory, Carleton remains unbeaten on the season at 21-0 and will face Wisconsin-Whitewater in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Falcons finish a fantastic season with a 16-7 record. They finished NACC play with a perfect 8-0 record and secured the NACC Tournament title with victories over St. Norbert and Edgewood. This is the first time since the 2017-18 season that the Falcons won both titles.

The Blue and White will take flight again in the fall season of 2023.
