MEQUON, Wis. – The 2022-23 athletic year was another successful one for the Concordia Wisconsin Athletic Department. The Falcons won and contended for conference championships in many sports and put together an impressive list of great achievements. As in years past, the Department of Athletic Communications tries to sort through all the great moments and give you, the fans, top stories from the past year.

The list of stories was compiled by the Department of Athletic Communications and, like all lists, is subject to debate. The top stories will be revealed over the next few days, with stories being released on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The top story will be released on August 4.

CUW's women's tennis team experienced tremendous success in their 2022-23 campaign, finishing as the outright NACC regular season champions in the fall and then claiming the NACC Tournament trophy in the spring.

On Oct. 8, the Falcons defeated the Raiders of MSOE 9-0 and claimed the program's eighth NACC regular season title, their first since the 2017 fall season.

In that match, senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and junior Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) swept the Raiders in No. 2 doubles, 8-0.

On the singles side, junior Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), Mallory Moen, and sophomore Peyton Morgan (Arlington Heights, Ill.) did not allow a point, claiming the 6-0, 6-0 victories.

CUW completed the perfect conference regular season with the win, going 9-0.

The Falcons carried their success from the fall to the spring, taking home the NACC Tournament trophy with a 5-3 victory over the Eagle of Edgewood on April 30.

Concordia delivered the first blow in No.1 doubles as the team of senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and Ashley Samuta secured an 8-4 victory.

The Eagles responded seconds later with an 8-4 victory in No. 2 doubles.

In a pivotal No.3 doubles, Mia Andrae and Mallory Moen came away with an 8-6 victory, giving the Falcons the 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Early in singles play, things did not look good for the Falcons as Edgewood secured two singles victories, taking the 3-2 lead and carrying the momentum.

At No. 3 singles, CUW's Mallory Moen snagged the 6-3, 7-5 victory to tie the match at 3-3.

Moments later, Ashley Saumta completed the comeback in No. 2 singles with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory, giving the Falcons a 4-3 lead.

After falling in the first set tiebreaker, Mia Andrae overwhelmed her opponent in the second set in No. 5 singles with a 6-1 victory. The senior then clinched the title for the Falcons in the third set, earning the 6-1 victory.

With the victory, the Falcons earned their 11th conference tournament title in program history and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2021.
