Women's Tennis ends fall season with win over Cornell

JACKSON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin had to battle in its final match of the fall season, but pulled out a 5-4 victory over Cornell College at Pleasant Valley Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons won a pair of doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead and worked hard during singles play to split the six matches, enough for the win.

CUW (10-3) won matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 8-5 and 8-4. Junior Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) and sophomore Amanda Ropiak (Franklin, Wis.), along with freshmen Alisia Macioch (South St. Paul, Minn.) and Michaela Wagner (Oswego, Ill.) helped the Falcons to the early lead.

Sophomore Ashley Knoll (Wilmot, Wis.) earned a close 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles, while freshman Jessica Sapp (Memphis, Mich.) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and freshman Hayley Paykel (Mequon, Wis.) won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

CUW has earned double-digit victories for the fifth-consecutive year. It also earned the No. 3 seed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament early in the season and will host No. 6-seeded Dominican University on Tuesday, Apr. 29.
