Women's Tennis extends NACC winning streak to five matches
FOREST PARK, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin earned a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victories on Saturday to push its winning streak to five matches in league play. The Falcons downed Concordia University Chicago, 8-1, before defeating Dominican University, 6-3.
It is just the third time since the 2006-07 season CUW has started the season with a 5-0 record. The longest winning streak to begin a season was 10-consecutive in 2011-12.
CUW (5-0, 5-0 NACC) lost just one doubles match during the day and won each match from No. 3-6 singles, including three 6-0, 6-0 victories.
During the Falcons 8-1 win over CUC (0-3, 0-2 NACC) the pairing of freshman Hayley Paykel (Mequon, Wis.) and freshman Kierra Kuehl (Random Lake, Wis.), along with freshman Alisia Macioch (South St. Paul, Minn.) and freshman Michaela Wagner (Oswego, Ill.) defeated their respective opponents by a score of 8-1.
Kuehl and freshman Rachel Schmitz cruised by their opponents with 6-0, 6-0 wins. Freshman Jessica Sapp (Memphis, Mich.) picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, while senior Kristine Weber (Rochester Hills, Mich.) picked up a hard fought 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Ashley Knoll (Wilmot, Wis.) also earned a 6-1, 6-2 conquest at No. 4 singles.
In the afternoon match, CUW's Knoll shutout her No. 4 singles opponent for a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Wagner downed her No. 6 competitor for a 6-2, 6-0 win.
CUW continues its five-match NACC road trip on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. match at MSOE.
