Women's Tennis downs Wisconsin Lutheran in NACC match

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College on Monday afternoon, 8-1, in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference women's tennis match. The victory kept the Falcons in second place in the league standings.

CUW (8-1, 8-1 NACC) had one hiccup at No. 1 singles, but cruised through doubles and to the completion of singles play.

"This is a huge confidence booster before going into our match on Wednesday against Lakeland College," head coach Steve Anschutz said. "This coming weekend is also going to be tough at the ITA Regional Championship."

The doubles pairing of freshmen Hayley Paykel (Mequon, Wis.) and Kierra Kuehl (Random Lake, Wis.) defeated their No. 3 competitors, 8-1, to get the momentum in the Falcons favor.

During singles play, freshman Rachel Schmitz (Poplar Grove, Ill.) lost just one game before defeating her No. 6 opponent 6-0, 6-1. It was her fourth-consecutive singles win in a row. Also earning an impressive win was junior Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.

CUW returns to the court on Wednesday for its final NACC match of the season against Lakeland College at 4 p.m. at North Shore Country Club
