Women's Tennis splits a pair of NACC matches
Edgewood College snapped the Concordia University Wisconsin women's tennis six-match winning streak, but the Falcons rebounded for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Rockford College, splitting a pair of conference matches Saturday.
The Falcons were swept by the defending NACC Champion Eagles, 9-0, in the first match of the day. Edgewood ran its conference regular season duals winning streak to 24 with its win over CUW. The Falcons then defeated Rockford, 7-2, in their second match.
Against the Eagles, CUW struggled to get much going as they were swept in all six singles matches in straight sets. Edgewood would handle the doubles play as well as, improving to 5-0 in the NACC.
Against Rockford the Falcons won four of six singles matches and swept doubles play en route to the 7-2 victory. Sophomore Amadna Ropiak (Franklin, Wis.) played her first match of the season at No. 1 singles and cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 victory to pace the Falcons.
Sophomore Ashley Knoll (Wilmot, Wis.) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles for CUW, while freshman Michaela Wagner (Oswego, Ill.) earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 singles spot. Also winning in singles play for CUW was freshman Alisia Macioch (South St. Paul, Minn.) as she netted a 6-2, 6-4 No. 5 singles victory.
Wagner was also on the winning side of things in doubles play as she partnered with Macioch for an 8-1 No. 1 double wins. Ropiak and freshman Jessica Sapp (Memphis, Mich.) gained an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and freshmen Kierra Kuehl (Random Lake, Wis.) and Amanda Beierle (Franklin, Wis.) rounded out the doubles lineup with an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 position.
CUW ran its conference and overall record to 7-1 on Saturday and currently sit in a second place tie with Aurora University. The Falcons will return to action Monday when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College in a dual match at 4:30 p.m.
