Women's Tennis selected second in NACC Preseason Poll

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin's Women's Tennis team has been predicted to finish second in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, according to the league's preseason poll voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Falcons earned 253 poll points as they look to improve upon last year's third-place finish. CUW lost three of its top players from last season, but expects to offer a lot more depth to its rotation in 2013-14.

CUW posted a 9-2 conference record last season, which earned them the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. They defeated Aurora University in the opening round, before falling to Wisconsin Lutheran College in the semifinals.

Edgewood College was tabbed as the favorites to win the NACC as the Eagles secured 286 points and 22 of 24 first-place votes. Gaining the final two first-place votes and coming in third after the Eagles and Falcons was Wisconsin Lutheran with 241 points. The next three teams were predicted to finish in the same spot as last year's final standings, beginning with Dominican University (198 points) in fourth. Marian University was fifth with 191 points and Aurora rounded out the top six with 171 points.

The Falcons will start their season off in conference play as they host both Aurora and Benedictine University in dual matches Saturday, August 31. CUW is slated to take on preseason favorite Edgewood September 14 in Madison.

The fall season will feature the full 11-match conference schedule for CUW as well as a non-conference tilt with UW-Stevens Point. The top six teams from the NACC regular season will advance to the league tournament, which is scheduled for the spring season. The winner of the NACC Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
