Women's Soccer plays to scoreless draw with Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon. The Falcons now enter Wednesday's regular season finale with a chance to clinch the third seed in the NACC Tournament.

Defense was the name of the game between CUC and CUW as the goalkeepers combined to make 17 saves in the draw. Callie Hasselbring stopped 12 shots for the Cougars, while freshmen Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) and Alyssa Schmitt (Cedar Grove, Wis.) combined for five saves. Worthing started the contest, stopping one shot, while Schmitt played the second half and both overtime sessions, earning the result and recording four saves.

The Falcons defense did an excellent job keeping Alyssa Soulis in check. Soulis ranks second in the NACC in points (33) and CUW limited her to one shot on Saturday. The Falcons outshot the Cougars 25-13 in the match. CUW fired 10 shots in the first half, nine in the second half and six combined in the two overtime sessions. The overtime sessions were the first of the season for CUW.

Three players combined for 20 of the Falcons 25 shots as sophomores Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) and Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) each attempted a match-high seven shots. Junior Anna Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.) added six shots for CUW. Three CUC players finished with a team-best seven.

The Falcons now enter their final NACC match knowing a win will clinch the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. A tie clinches the Falcons a home match (3 or 4 seed). The only CUW is not playing at home on Sunday is if they lose Wednesday and MSOE and Marian win their final matches.

CUW (9-7-1, 7-2-1) will conclude its regular season schedule Wednesday with a trip to face off against Wisconsin Lutheran College. Action from Warrior Soccer Field is set for 7 p.m.
